I also support people deconstructing beliefs and identities, rebuilding a stronger sense of self, and navigating trauma, attachment, and transitions. These issues can show up as anxiety, depression, confusion, black and white thinking and indecisiveness or feeling stuck. Snakes shed their skin to make room for growth, and in the process remove parasites that have been plaguing them. In the context of therapy, I think about the process as shedding a skin that we have outgrown. Coming out of a high-control religious environment provides the opportunity to shed our old beliefs and discard the constricting systems and ideas that held us too tightly.
